The exhibition presents objects from the collection of the Weltkulturen Museum plus new works produced by seven international artists. Instead of travelling to far-away lands, the artists undertook fieldwork expeditions in the Weltkulturen Labor at Schaumainkai 37.

Δ Lecture: CassettePlaya/Carri Munden (London) “WARRIOR SWAGGER – Male Initiation Rituals in Papua New Guinea, the Amazon and the United Kingdom”

The work of London-based designer Carri Munden a.k.a. CassettePlaya is inspired by urban culture, especially the style of skateboarders in the 1990s. Next to Japanese Anime and video games, Rave-Day-Glo colours and pixelated prints, her collections feature motifs that refer to Aztec Art and African Prints.

In her presentation, she speaks about her label, her close collaboration with the British jewellery designer Duffy as well as her observations related to forms of male identity in the United Kingdom, male initiation rituals and bodily modifications.

Presentations with objects from the collection and films. In English.

    Entrance €3 incl. refreshments.
