Through the exhibition “WORLDS IN MOTION. Narrating Migration”
With Lieselotte IlligPeople have always been on the move, all around the world. As they move, they also take with them their lifestyles, language, music, and arts and crafts. Much of what is reputedly ‘authentic’ for a culture turns out, at second glance, to be an ‘import’.
Starting from its own collections, the Weltkulturen Museum raises associative questions highlighting how the world’s diversity of cultures has always existed in a process of exchange. From historical settlement movements, labour migration or globalisation – people and their diverse cultures have always been in a process of constant exchange. Is migration really only a reaction to or a cause of problems – or far more a key driver for new forms of community in a constantly changing world?
Lieselotte Illig leads through the exhibition and gives insights into it's developement.

“Detained in port – when a rescue ship cannot rescue”
With Adrian Pourviseh, Sea-Watch crew
Adrian Pourviseh was present on two Sea-Watch 3 missions in 2019. On both occasions, the Italian authorities obstructed the departure of the rescue ship with nitpicking and bureaucratic hurdles, as is currently the case again.
As part of the crew, who stayed ready to depart every day, Adrian felt first hand how saving lives from drowning became a political issue. In his diary he illustrated his feelings and the everyday events on a sea rescue ship prevented from rescuing lives.
In his lecture, Pourviseh explains the work of Sea-Watch, the exhibited diary entries and shows unpublished illustrations of moments on the ship. He takes a look into the future, exploring how the climate crisis may cause further flight movements - and why it must be talked about everywhere in 2020.

The exhibition "SW5Y – Five years of civil sea rescue", a cooperation of Sea-Watch and the Weltkulturen Museum, is entering its final round. On Sunday, August 30th, we will close the exhibition with an all-day finissage: lectures and info-booths are waiting for you.
In addition to Sea-Watch, representatives of friendly organizations and networks will be present who are working against letting people die, for safe escape routes and human rights for all.
From 2 pm you can meet representatives of Amnesty International, Humanitarian Pilots Initiative, Initiative 19 February Hanau, Pro Asyl, Seebrücke, WatchtheMed Alarmphone and We'll Come United Rhein-Main, who will talk about their work at information stands.
The participating organisations will introduce themselves and report on their work in impulse talks between 2.30 - 5.30 pm and will be available for questions and discussions.
From 6 pm onwards, there will be live music by AMEWU, rapper and one of the most talented live MCs in Germany.
The finissage takes place in the courtyard of the Weltkulturen Labor.
The exhibition is open on that day from 11am to 6pm.
The event will take place in accordance with Corona regulations.
