Δ READING CLUB AT THE WELTKULTUREN MUSEUM: DECOLONIZATION AS HEALING?

    With Amelie Kleinhubbert (Cultural mediator)
Accompanying the exhibition "healing. Life in Balance"

In the reading club "Decolonization as Healing?", texts are read and discussed together that are based on themes from the exhibition "healing. Live in Balance". Colonial continuities in everyday life and how to deal with them are the focus. What role does colonialism play in the museum? How is our idea of nature colonially shaped? What can healing mean?

Anybody who couldn’t be there the first and second time is also most welcome to join now. You will receive details of the reading material when you book your place.

Objects from the Kingdom of Benin (Nigeria) occupy a central role in the debate on the restitution of cultural property. The collection of the Weltkulturen Museum also contains over fifty objects made of metal, wood and ivory from the Kingdom of Benin (Nigeria). When and under what circumstances did they enter the collection of what was then known as the Völkermuseum? A research project into provenance funded by the German Lost Art Foundation has been conducted at the Frankfurt museum in order to address these questions, exploring the complex ownership status behind these objects. The first of two exhibitions presents the objects of the collections gives an insight into the research.

Film screening followed by a film discussion with Isa Willinger, director

"There are 500 times more plastic particles in the ocean than stars in our galaxy".
Plastic, more a curse than a blessing of modernity, is everywhere: in the rivers and oceans, in the air and in our bodies. PLASTIC FANTASTIC deals with the people who bring more and more plastic into the world and those who try to get rid of it.

A cooperation of the Weltkulturen Museum with naxosKino in the context of the exhibition "healing. Life in Balance".
The film screening will take place in the Naxoshalle!
