    TALK
    "Zeros and Ones"
    Sarah Browne (Dublin)
    Δ TALK

    "Zeros and Ones"
    Sarah Browne (Dublin)

Sarah Browne presents a discussion of her recent work in Ireland and the Shetland Islands. Foregrounding her interest in the historical relationship between textiles, computing technologies and communication systems, this talk will also address the position of the artist in relation to critical ethnography and the representation of invisible or perishable labour.

Sarah Browne’s research-based practice investigates the materiality of how we communicate and create shared meanings through exchange and transaction. She uses the peculiar status of the art object, and its uncertain purpose, as a hinge to lever discussions about economy, value and politics.

Recent exhibitions include “Hand to Mouth”, CCA Derry-Londonderry, (2014);“The Peacock”, Grazer Kunstverein; “One Foot in the Real World”, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; “The Twentieth Century as Never Seen Before”, Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia (2013); “How to Use Fool's Gold”, Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2012); “Minimalism and Applied II”, Daimler Contemporary, Berlin, and “Unto This Last”, Raven Row, London (both 2010). In 2009 she co-represented Ireland at the 53rd Venice Biennale with Gareth Kennedy and Kennedy Browne. She currently lectures at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.
