‘What do rock paintings tell us?’

with Dr Richard Kuba (Frobenius Institute)

During a joint tour, Dr Richard Kuba will give an overview of the central themes of the exhibition ‘Country bin pull'em’ and place a special focus on the monumental rock art copies that were created during the Frobenius expedition in north-west Australia. For the Wanjina Wunggurr community, rock art remains an important part of their culture.

Based on this unique rock art tradition, Dr Richard Kuba will also talk about the worldwide significance of prehistoric drawings and engravings on rock surfaces. As visual evidence of a global human history, they represent a common heritage that connects us to the impressive worlds of our ancestors and the magnificent landscapes of our past. Rock art tells the story of the birthplaces of art and the beginnings of all artistic creation. It creates connections to impressive places and represents encounters with the surrounding living world. It connects nature and culture in the landscape. This unique, endangered and irreplaceable visual heritage is still significant and relevant worldwide today.
