    Δ WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS

    "Hearing the sound of silence”
With Martin Brüger (meditation trainer and artist)

Sound and silence aren’t just opposites, they are the two indivisible extremes of hearing, because silence can only be experienced via sound and vice versa. In this guided meditative workshop connected with the exhibition “SOUND SOURCES. Everything Is Music”, we will find out about various meditative exercises that sharpen our sense of hearing and let us develop an awareness of hearing as a process that ultimately takes place in our consciousness rather than in our ears. The exercises presented here will offer the participants a whole new dimension of experience that extends from meditatively listening to self-made and external sounds through to chilling in the power of audio silence. And sound, of course, is also a means of communication: after a phase of meditative sensitisation to sound and silence we will round off the evening with a communal sound/silence performance. Nobody needs musical skills for this workshop; it is much more about being open to insights about hearing processes, and being eager to find out about a more sensitive perception of ourselves and our surroundings.

    No prior experience required
Workshop attendance: 6 euros plus the cost of admission to the exhibition.

    WORKSHOP FOR EVERY AGE GROUP
    “How things sound”
with the musical theatre collective Matter of Facts Studio
Δ WORKSHOP FOR EVERY AGE GROUP

    "How things sound
with the musical theatre collective Matter of Facts Studio

In the workshop “How things sound” we will conduct research alongside residents of Frankfurt into the many different options for making instruments. Starting with traditional instruments – particularly string, percussion and wind – we will devise our own instruments from simple materials, reflect on the normative and colonial history of certain groups of instruments, and set to work ourselves. This will let us produce our own sounds while also allowing us to experience knowledge and materiality with our senses. “How things sound” is a workshop about constructing instruments that is suitable for various age groups.

Place on workshop: €6. Please book in advance. Families welcome.

    WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS
    “Seeing with your ears”
    with Lasse-Marc Riek (sound artist)
    Δ *** CANCELLED *** WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS

    "Seeing with your ears

    with Lasse-Marc Riek (sound artist)

The world is full of noises: familiar, loud, rare, barely audible, entrancing, funny, surprising, sad, confusing, playful… but all too seldom do we listen to them attentively.

This workshop seeks to encourage people to hear things mindfully and adopt a creative approach to noises. The participants will track down sound spaces and explore their acoustic environment by looking at their own specific attitudes to sound. This will allow them to re-experience and re-discover their individual surroundings and habitat from a whole new perspective. Practical exercises about how people perceive what they hear as well as listening walks are two very different ways of investigating sound spaces. By utilising various techniques with microphones, recordings and digital editing we will create our own sound spaces, discover and play everyday items that produce sounds, or generate sound portraits.
