Mobile Things – Objects in Motion
We’re surrounded by things that can tell us their own stories, which are also the stories of the long or short journeys they’ve made. Maybe they’re tales about who they used to belong to, how they were used, and the ideas associated with them? Together, we will apply aesthetic research methodology to explore the routes taken by personal items and objects in the museum, as well as looking at what they have in common. We will then create links between them using a creative process that includes both digital and analogue elements. The findings that emerge from the research will be incorporated into mini-exhibitions which will be presented at the end by small groups in a digital session for all the participants.
Duration: 3 hours
A version of this workshop can be held for home schooling and it is also compatible with hybrid learning models. Please get in touch with the education team about the technical requirements (069 212 39898 or ). The workshop will be adapted to suit the age group of the participants. - Workshops based on the Museum’s education collection
The mask as an object
Are there more to masks than meets the eye? What role do people wearing masks adopt? We explore examples of masks belonging to the museum’s educational collection of over 2000 objects from different cultures across the world to examine the phenomenon of masks on a variety of levels – and we design our own personal masks.

Shadow Play
Who exactly are Semar the pot-bellied clown and Hanuman the Monkey King? We discover the adventures experienced by heroes, demons and giants in Javanese wayang puppetry, and try out a performance ourselves.

From words to pictures
We’re fascinated by myths and stories! First we’ll dive into the exhibition “COUNTRY BIN PULL’EM. Looking Back Together” and familiarise ourselves with the impressive images and myths of Indigenous peoples from Northwest Australia. After that we’ll listen to a story and then illustrate it using printing techniques.
Time: 2 hours.
Costs €6 per person
Pre-primary and primary school groups.
Maps that tell us more
Certain places are highly significant to us as individuals. That’s a theme that also runs through the exhibition “COUNTRY BIN PULL’EM. Looking Back Together”. After exploring the exhibition itself we will think about the places we find important, and about how we can visualise them. What does a place need to be like if we are to feel comfortable? How do we navigate a route through uncertain or disputed terrain, and which places would we rather avoid altogether? Together we’ll produce maps that will capture these special meanings and our knowledge of a particular area.
Time: 2 hours.
Costs €6 per person
Lower- to upper-secondary groups.
Setting pictures to sound
Can a work of art produce sounds like a piece of music? Do pictures have a particular rhythm, and can colours be loud or quiet? After the participants of this workshop have familiarised themselves with the meanings of the artworks and rock paintings in the exhibition “COUNTRY BIN PULL’EM. Looking Back Together”, and the stories behind them, they will set selected works to sound, creating their own short musical compositions.
Time: 2 hours.
Costs €6 per person.
The workshop will be adapted to suit the age group.
Pre-primary to upper-secondary groups.
