CassettePlaya, Great Britain
“My clothes are quite cartoon, but I have no intention of making people look funny.”
CassettePlaya is the fashion label of the London-based designer Carri Munden - an international luxury women’s and menswear brand with a reputation for cult graphics and digital print.
She studied Fashion Design at the University of Westminster and presented the CassettePlaya collection there as her final project.
The designs of CassettePlaya are especially influenced by global youth cultures, such as the fashion of skateboarders in the 1990s, Japanese Anime and video games, Rave-Day-Glo colours and pixelated prints. For the last eight out of twelve seasons, CassettePlaya has chosen digital forms of display. Using film, animation, sound, augmented reality and interactive digital installations, the label pushes the boundaries of fashion presentation.
In 2007 CassettePlaya was nominated as “Best Menswear Designer” at the British Fashion Awards alongside Christopher Bailey and Alexander McQueen. In 2008 CassettePlaya was awarded “Best Fashion Designer” in Rolling Stone magazine’s “Best of Rock” issue. In the same year the Victoria& Albert Museum (London)presented her work in the exhibition “Fashion V Sport“. She also collaborated with Nike for the exhibition “DUNK BE TRUE”.
