Marco Del Fiol (born in 1971) is a director, photographer, and script writer. He lives and works in Brazil.
Since the early 2000s, Del Fiol has produced a series of documentaries for such institutions like Videobrasil, Serviço Social do Comércio (Sesc) and Centre Pompidou. In those videos, Del Fiol records the work processes of renowned contemporary artists, including Olafur Eliasson, Marina Abramović, Isaac Julien, Marepe, and Song Dong.
In The Space in Between ‑ Marina Abramović and Brazil (2016), Del Fiol documents the performance artist’s search for healing and for inspiration. On a journey through Brazil, Abramović participates in different rituals and healing processes, testing the boundaries between art, spirituality, and consciousness. The film has been screened at more than 30 film festivals around the world, including South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, the bfi London Film Festival, the Stockholm Film Festival, and the Moscow International Film Festival (IFF). It was nominated for eight awards.
Del Fiol has directed a number of other documentaries, including Cravos (2018), a portrait of photographer Mário Cravo’s family. Together with Marcelo Machado, Pedro Cezar, Tatiana Tofolli and Viviane Ferreira, he produced Pessoas: Contar para viver (2019). The film documents the Museu da Pessoa in São Paulo. Founded in 1991, and working virtually and collaboratively, the museum invites people to contribute their personal stories, images, and videos, thereby preserving their life stories as part of collective memory.
